Lost & Found Pet Information

If your pet is microchipped, make sure your contact information is current with the microchip company. You can call them to make any updates to your information. If you do not know which microchip company to contact, get in touch with the veterinary office who placed your pets microchip for more information.

Post photo of your lost pet via social media such as:

  • The NextDoor App
  • The Ring Doorbell Neighbors App
  • Local Facebook groups such as “Greater St Louis Missouri Lost & Found Paws”, “St. Louis, MO – Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets”, “ Lost and Found Pets- St. Louis, MO”; a quick search within Facebook may reveal additional groups
  • Call local area shelters. Send them your contact information, a picture of your lost pet, and any other identifying information about your pet.

    • St. Louis County Animal Care & Control
    • Stray Rescue of St. Louis
    • Gateway Pet Guardians
    • City of St. Louis Animal Care and Control
    • Check with your local municipality as they may have their own animal control department
  • Visit ALL animal shelters in your area as often as possible. Animals might be picked up in one area but taken to a shelter in a different place, so be sure to call and/or visit as many shelters as possible
  • Post Flyers around your neighborhood
  • Place ads with your local newspapers. Some newspapers may run these ads at no charge

  • Keep your distance until you are sure you can safely handle the animal. Do not attempt to handle a sick or injured animal if you do not feel it is safe.
  • If you can ,take the animal to any Veterinary Hospital or animal shelter to be scanned for a microchip
  • Post photos of the found pet along with your contact info via social media such as:

    • Local Facebook groups such as “Greater St Louis Missouri Lost & Found Paws”, “St. Louis, MO – Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets”, “ Lost and Found Pets- St. Louis, MO”; a quick search within Facebook may reveal additional groups
  • Call local area shelters. Send them your contact information, a picture of the found pet, and any other identifying information about the pet. You may choose to relinquish the animal to their care.

If you are contacted by an individual who claims that you have found their pet, and they have given you any indication to not believe them, please reach out to any of the above mentioned animal rescue groups for assistance.
